Who is eligible to receive a Law Student Emergency Loan?
- Registered NSU law students who have successfully completed the first semester of law school with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 and who will receive sufficient financial aid to cover the repayment of the loan.
- Law Student Emergency Loans are not available to the following groups: transfer and first year students in their first semester at NSU Law; summer conditional students; transient and non-law students.
- All qualified students are eligible to receive a NOVA Southeastern University Gold Circle Emergency Loan. Please see below for further information about this loan program.
What is the amount of the Law Student Emergency Loan you may receive?
- You may obtain $500.
- A higher amount may be requested, if Financial Aid verifies you have sufficient funds available to repay the loan.
How do you receive a Law Student Emergency Loan?
- Complete a Promissory Note (print out the Download Application link above), which requests your name, address, telephone number, NSU I.D. and email address.
- Sign the Promissory Note and submit to the Financial Aid Counselor located in Student Affairs.
- Financial Aid will verify if you have sufficient funds available to repay loan. If you do have sufficient funds, the Financial Aid Counselor will grant approval of a loan, by also signing the Promissory Note.
- Bring the Loan Application to Administration, Room 120 - 122, across from the Dean’s Offices.
How long does it take to process a Law Student Emergency Loan?
- We verify your enrollment status and GPA; then we approve the Promissory Note and write the check.
- Usually it takes less than an hour to receive the loan check.
How do you repay the Law Student Emergency Loan?
- At the same time the loan is being processed and the check is being written, an e-mail is written to the Bursar’s office notifying them, of your name, NSU I.D. # and loan amount. You receive a cc of the email, along with a copy of the note and the check.
- The Bursar’s office will repay the loan directly to the Law Center Administration Office from your student account.
