Who is eligible to receive a Law Student Emergency Loan?

  • Registered NSU law students who have successfully completed the first semester of law school with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 and who will receive sufficient financial aid to cover the repayment of the loan.
  • Law Student Emergency Loans are not available to the following groups: transfer and first year students in their first semester at NSU Law; summer conditional students; transient and non-law students.
  • All qualified students are eligible to receive a University Gold Circle Emergency Loan. Please see below for further information about this loan program.

What is the amount of the Law Student Emergency Loan you may receive?

  • You may obtain up to $500.
  • In special emergencies, a higher amount may be requested (if funds are available).

How do you receive a Law Student Emergency Loan?

  • Come to the Office of Administrative Operations located in Administration, Rooms 121 or 122, across from the Deans’ Offices.
  • Complete a Promissory Note, which requests your name, address, telephone number, NSU I.D. #, anticipated graduation date, and e-mail address.
  • Write on the back of the Promissory Note briefly why you are requesting an emergency loan.
  • Sign the Promissory Note and submit to the Assistant Dean for Administration or the Assistant to the Dean.

How long does it take to process a Law Student Emergency Loan?

  • Usually it takes less than an hour to receive the loan check.
  • We verify your enrollment status and G.P.A. and financial aid award with Student Affairs; then we complete the Promissory Note and write the check.

How do you repay the Law Student Emergency Loan?

  • At the same time the loan is being processed and the check is being written, a memorandum is written to the Bursar’s Office notifying them of your name, NSU I.D. # and loan amount. You receive a copy of the memorandum, along with a copy of the note, and the check.
  • The Bursar’s office will repay the loan directly to the Office of Administrative Operations at the Law Center from your student account.
