Frequently Asked Questions

Registration and Pin Numbers
Registration for your Fall 2009 classes will take place at the end of July.  An email will be sent closer to that time informing you when registration is available. In order to register for classes you will need your pin. This six-digit pin number is needed to access WebStar, which is the system used for all registration periods (including Drop/Add). It is important to keep your pin number. If you have misplaced your pin number, email pinhelp@nova.edu or call (954) 262-4850 between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM. To protect student privacy, the University does not give Student Affairs access to student pin numbers. Consequently, Student Affairs will be unable to give you your pin number. The pin number is only issued through US Mail, not by email or by phone. It may take up to two weeks to receive a new pin number. Therefore, it is important to keep your pin number in a secure place.

Individual Class Schedule, Sections, Assignments, and Textbooks

First year student schedules and sections are assigned, rather than chosen by the student. Sections are subject to change due to orientation enrollment which will be done by administration. Your individual class schedule will be posted on the orientation website by August 1.  Course assignments for the first day of class are generally posted on the individual faculty member's web page at www.nsulaw.nova.edu/faculty/.  Assignments for Orientation and Foundations for Law School week (August 16-21) will be posted on July 15. Textbooks are available at the NSU Bookstore.  For the bookstore location and hours of operation please visit the NSU bookstore website at www.nsubooks.bkstore.com or call (954) 262-4750.  Please have your individual class schedule with you.

Reach the building by going left around the lake at the rear of the Law Center. Incoming students will park in the garage during Orientation and Foundations for Law School week. You will access the garage via the east entrance on Ray Ferrero Blvd. and follow the signs directing you to the garage entrance. As soon as you get your parking decal, you will be able to park in the law school lot, in front of the Law Center

Food and Beverages

Food and beverages are available at Einstein's, located in the business school next door, as well as at Starbucks, Subway, and other restaurants located in Don Taft University Center Food Court. Financial Aid

Financial aid provides assistance through federal, state, institutional, and private programs to students who require funding to meet the cost of attending college.  If you are interested in receiving federal financial aid while attending NSU, you should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Provided you have met all eligibility requirements and submitted all requested documents, you will receive a financial aid Award Notice via your NSU email account or  the United States Postal Service.  You will be awarded the annual loan maximum eligible amount under the Federal Stafford Loan Program.

If you need to apply for additional aid, you can apply for a Federal Grad PLUS Loan or an Alternative/Private Loan.  The maximum loan amount a student can borrow is the student's cost of attendance minus any other financial aid the student receives. For additional details, you can check the NSU financial aid Web site at http://www.nova.edu/financialaid/grantsloans/graduate/index.html

Provided you have submitted all required information and met all financial aid general eligibility criteria, your financial aid award will be credited to your student account at the beginning of each term.  If the total amount of your award for the term exceeds your tuition, fees, campus housing, NSU health insurance, and meal plan costs (if applicable) for the term, you may receive a check or automatic deposit for the excess funds from the University Bursar's Office.  Students should make arrangements to pay cost-of-living expenses, books, and any other applicable expenses until excess funds are issued.  To receive excess funds as a direct deposit to your checking account, please download the Direct Deposit Form available on the Web site at www.nova.edu/cwis/bursar/forms/directdeposit.pdf and submit the completed form to the Office of the University Bursar as indicted on the form.

The Office of Student Financial Assistance staff is available to assist you with any questions you may have concerning your award.  You may contact us at 954-262-3380 or 800-806-3680.
