How do I check out a study room from the Law Library?

Law Library Study Rooms check out to NSU Law Students only. To check out a study room, you will need your NSU ID card. If you do not have you NSU ID Card, you will need to provide another form of identification to the clerk at Circulation. Once you have provided you NSU ID CARD / Form of Identification, the study room key will be checked out to your account.

Study Room Policies

  • The law library rooms are for NSU Law Students only.
  • All Law Students must use their NSU I.D. / Smart Card in order to check out the study rooms.
  • Study rooms check out for 3 hours. In order to renew, students must come to the Circulation Desk. If other students are waiting for a study room, renewals won’t be allowed. Please be aware that study room usage is at it’s peak during exams and in order to ensure fairness to all, it may be very difficult, if not impossible, to renew during these times of high usage.
  • Groups of two or more law students have priority over single users.
  • To be considered a group user, all members of the group in the study room must sign the study room log and leave their names with the circulation staff.
  • A study room key may not leave the library. If you are taking a short break, leave the key at the circulation desk.
  • The use of study rooms is first come, first served; rooms may not be reserved in advance.

A "checked out" study room that has been vacant for longer than 15 minutes will be considered to be constructively abandoned and will be returned to "available" status. If students have left materials/belongings in a constructively abandoned study room, these items will be moved by a librarian or Circulation Manager to a secure location (the librarian's office or the Circulation Manager's office) for retrieval by the student.

  • Maintain quiet as the walls between the rooms are thin and classmates are trying to study.
  • Regular library rules apply to the study rooms. No food or smoking is permitted. Drinks must be in library-approved spill-proof containers. The use of beepers and cell phones is not permitted.
  • The keys to the study rooms must be returned to the circulation desk 15 minutes prior to regular library closing times.
  • When students are finished using a study room, it is their responsibility to turn off the lights, lock the door, and return the key to the circulation desk.
