Professor Mohapatra received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. Prior to attending law school, Professor Mohapatra received her Masters in Public Health from Yale University. Professor Mohapatra received her bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences and minor in Women's Studies from Johns Hopkins University.

Professor Mohapatra currently teaches Medical Law and Bioethics for Kaplan University. Prior to this, Professor Mohapatra was an assistant professor of law at Barry University School of Law, where she taught torts and health care law.  She also practiced health law at the fourth largest law firm in the country, Sidley Austin. Her practice with the firm involved counseling health care providers on state and federal fraud and abuse, regulatory, HIPAA, transactional, and corporate compliance matters. Professor Mohapatra also drafted and lobbied for various pieces of legislation involving children's health, including a measure requiring HIV testing of newborns. In addition, Professor Mohapatra co-authored a chapter on health privacy and HIPAA in the textbook entitled Telemedicine and E-Health Law. She previously taught as an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Professor Mohapatra's current research interests include legal and ethical issues involved with public health regulation, such as quarantine, and tort and regulatory issues related to assisted reproductive technology.
