Anthony Niedwiecki has been a member of the NSU faculty since 2003, where he has taught Lawyering Skills and Values, rhetoric, sexual orientation and the law, employment discrimination, and labor law. He currently is the director of the Lawyering Skills and Values Program. Prof. Niedwiecki joined the faculty after teaching at the Beasley School of Law at Temple University, where he taught legal research and writing, appellate advocacy, and an employment law drafting workshop. He also taught legal methods and sexual orientation and the law at Arizona State University.
Prof. Niedwiecki’s scholarly interests include legal and political rhetoric. He is currently examining the rhetoric used in the fight for and against GLBT rights, with an emphasis on how fear and stigma continue to be used in campaigns against sexual minorities. He also has done significant research on how marriage amendments have been interpreted in the states that have passed them.
Prof. Niedwiecki has been very active in the community, working with LGBT groups in fighting discrimination. He and his husband, Waymon Hudson, are co-founders of Fight OUT Loud, an organization dedicated to helping LGBT individuals fight discrimination and hate. The group was at the forefront in the fight against the anti-gay comments made by Fort Lauderdale’s mayor. He also made several presentations on the legal implications of Florida’s Amendment 2, and has written a series of blog posts analyzing LGBT legal issues in the state of Florida. In March 2009, Prof. Niedwiecki was elected to the City Commission for Oakland Park, FL. By receiving the most votes in the entire election, he will serve as Vice Mayor in 2010 and Mayor in 2011.
Prof. Niedwiecki received a B.A. in mathematics from Wayne State University, a J.D. from Tulane Law School, and an LL.M. from the Beasley School of Law at Temple University.
